Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary

Travel to Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, Sabah and explore of the first endorsed orang-utan rehabilitation development for rescued orphaned baby orang-utans from plantations, illegal hunting, and logging sites to be kept as pets. Solemnized in the year 1964 and set about 25 kilometres west of Sandakan, the sanctuary is positioned within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve which shields an area of 5,529 ha (13,660 acres). There are more than 60 to 80 orang-utans living here and all the orphaned orang-utans are trained to survive again in the wild and then release them as soon as they are fine.

Getting there

By Bus – From the local bus stand next to the Sandakan waterfront market, take the blue bus marked ‘Sepilok Batu 14′ (Sepilok – 14th Mile). The bus ride is about 30-minute and it will take you directly to the rehabilitation centre.
